First Canadian Winter
On November 22, an initiative on behalf of refugees was started. First Canadian Winter is a grassroots project that collects donated hand-made hats, scarves, mitts, slippers, and other warmies to welcome newcomers to Canada. Hand-crafted items are imbued with the love of the person who made them. Ask any Canadian knitter or crocheter - there are beautiful warm woollens already made and squirrelled away in drawers and closets that were crafted with love and need a home. Hats that need heads, mitts that need hands, scarves that need necks, slippers that need feet. The first Canadian winter can be a shock for newcomers, and many of them are unprepared for winter. We would like to outfit as many of them as we can with winter warmies, along with a welcome note, and information about winter safety and winter fun.
Wool n’Things is proud to participate in this initiative and will collect knitted and crocheted items on behalf of First Canadian Winter during store hours.
